Implement Forced Alignments for Jane

Project Leader: Stephan Peitz
Project Support: David Vilar, Daniel Stein

The goal of this project will be to complete the forced alignment implementation in Jane, RWTH's hierarchical phrase-based toolkit. Forced alignment is the process of finding the best segmentation of a given bilingual sentence pair using the available phrase inventory. [Wuebker et al. 2010] showed that using this approach it is possible to achieve good improvements in translation qualitiy for the phrase-based translation model. A preliminary implementation of this method is available in the Jane decoder. the goal of this project is to improve on this initial implementation in order to achive a better coverage of the training corpus and increase efficiency.
